Occult Crescent
Occult Crescent was released in 7.25, and is Dawntrail’s featured Field Operation similar to the likes of Eureka and Bozja. You will explore the island known as Shades’ Triangle which takes inspiration from the legend of the real-world Bermuda Triangle
To unlock the Occult Crescent you must have
- Completed the Dawntrail 7.0 MSQ
- Reached level 100 on any disciple of war or magic
- Have an item level of at least 690 or higher
Currently, to enter Occult Crescent you must have completed the questline starting with “One Last Hurrah” (starts in Tuliyollal (X:17.1, Y:11.8)) through “Unfamiliar Territory” to unlock the South Horn.
To enter, you must talk to Jeffroy in the Phantom Village while being on a level 100 disciple of war or magic with your gear meeting a 690 item level minimum.
When zoning in, two things are important to know. First, The zone syncs to item level 700, so any gear above 700 will sync down to that item level and any materia affixed on said gear will be disabled. This has some important implications for gear progression later on. Second, you cannot gain any disciple of war/magic experience here. Occult Crescent instead uses two different leveling systems that are explained further below.
Table of Contents
Section titled “Table of Contents”Phantom Jobs
Section titled “Phantom Jobs”While exploring the Occult Crescent, you can equip various Phantom Jobs (Ph. Jobs) that will augment your playstyle in supportive, defensive, and/or offensive ways. There are currently 15 available Phantom Jobs to level and master, each with their own gimmick. Future patches (7.55) will add 8 more Phantom Jobs. To learn more about the different Phantom Jobs, please visit Phantom Jobs page
Leveling
Section titled “Leveling”There is an entirely different leveling system, similar to Eureka and Bozja. This time there are two: Knowledge Level and Phantom Job Level.
Knowledge Level
Section titled “Knowledge Level”Knowledge Level acts as your overall, more general experience level. Knowledge Level experience is earned from completing FATEs, Critical Encounters (CEs), or chaining together mob kills at or above your or your party’s overall level.
Knowledge Level currently caps at 20 and affects the following things:
- What mobs will or will not be aggressive when near them.
- How much damage you will take/receive from mobs of a higher/lower level.
- Dictates which mobs are “chainable.”
If you wish to chain but your party members’ levels are uneven, the party leader can choose to sync everyone’s levels; this will allow chaining to be possible.
Knowledge Level v. Mob Level - Damage Taken/Recieved
Section titled “Knowledge Level v. Mob Level - Damage Taken/Recieved”Below is a chart that goes over how much damage you take and do to mobs of a certain level above your own, as well as how that correlates to party size.

Phantom Job Level
Section titled “Phantom Job Level”Phantom Job Level is specific to the Phantom Job you currently have equipped. Ph. Job EXP can be earned from completing FATEs, CEs, and chaining together mob kills at or above your or your party’s overall level.
Leveling Phantom Jobs will not only unlock and upgrade your Phantom Actions, but fully leveling, or “mastering,” a Phantom Job will grant you a stacking mastery bonus per mastered Phantom Job. This mastery bonus will increase both your damage and healing potency by 2% for each stack. At this time, the maximum mastery bonus is 15.

Gear Progression
Section titled “Gear Progression”Currently, we can obtain the Arcanaut’s Gear and Occult Accessories. Both help you grow stronger through their “Occult Crescent Effect” which grants Special Attribute and bonus main stat (str, dex, mind, etc.).
Arcanaut’s Gear is purchased with enlightenment silver pieces from the Expedition Antiquarian in South Horn’s base camp. Occult Accessories can rarely be found when completing CEs, opening coffers, finding gold pot chests, and Fortune Carrot chests.

Are the Occult Accessories right for you?
Section titled “Are the Occult Accessories right for you?”Accessories are crazy rare drops from multiple sources in Occult Crescent, so weighing the option of keeping or selling is something to strongly consider. While they are expensive and could net you a nice lump of gil, you should consider that they are a straight power gain while in OC.
You can start by asking yourself a few questions: Do you plan to spend a lot of time in OC? Do you plan on doing Forked Tower a lot? Do you like doing big damage numbers? Or do you just want to complete the content and GTFO?
Accessories provide a 1-2% increase to your overall damage (phantom mastery dependent) and will continue to increase in value as we obtain more gear with the occult bonus and mastery. However, if you just want your collectibles and/or don’t enjoy the content, maybe it’s worth selling sooner rather than later.
The final choice is yours.
FATEs and CEs
Section titled “FATEs and CEs”OC also draws parallels to Bozja in that there are smaller, faster encounters using the FATE system and larger, more intense battles through Critical Encounters (CEs). It further mixes Eureka and Bozja together by allowing certain CEs to be spawned, or “prepped,” by killing specific mobs to spawn specific C Es. Currently, CEs are a mix of those that automatically spawn and others that spawn by players prepping mobs.
FATEs and CEs can be found on your map in either blue (FATEs) or red (CEs) circles. A chime will play when a CE spawns as well.
It’s important to note that your Knowledge/Phantom Job Level does NOT matter when participating in FATES and CEs. Anyone of any level can join and reap full rewards that scale to their knowledge level.
Joining FATEs and CEs
Section titled “Joining FATEs and CEs”To join a FATE, simply walk up and engage with the FATE boss present.
To join a CE, you must walk to the designated area and stand in the glowing blue circle. After a 3 minute recruitment period, the CE will place everyone present into the encounter and begin combat.
Tracking FATEs and Critical Encounters
Section titled “Tracking FATEs and Critical Encounters”You can use Infi’s Occult Tracker website to help you keep track of which FATEs and CEs have spawned and which have not spawned. This site also helps you know which encounters drop what rewards (notes, Demiatmas, etc.) along with which CEs can be spawned by players. It also details where and which mobs are located.
Mobs and Chaining
Section titled “Mobs and Chaining”Mob chaining returns in Occult Crescent. Chaining is when you kill mobs of a certain level within a window of time between each kill. The window of time shrinks as the chain grows longer, but the rewards improve the higher your chain goes. Currently, to chain mobs, you must kill mobs higher than your party’s average level. The level of mob required goes up with each additional party member. This caps around 7 or 8 levels higher when you reach an 8-member party. Currently, chaining only rewards enlightenment gold pieces , Knowledge Level EXP, and Phantom Job EXP.
| Party Size | Enemy Level |
|---|---|
| Solo | 2 levels above |
| 2 | 3 levels above |
| 3-4 | 4-5 levels above |
| 5-6 | 6-7 levels above |
| 7-8 | 7-8 levels above |
Mob Farming
Section titled “Mob Farming”Farming mobs is one of the few ways to get enlightenment gold pieces in the South Horn. You can find the mob farming guide for each zone below

Treasure Coffers
Section titled “Treasure Coffers”Around Occult Crescent, you will randomly find coffers spread throughout the field. These coffers come in two varities: bronze and silver. Both contain mounts, hairstyles, materia, party favors, materials required for gear progression, and so much more. These are spawned by completing FATEs, CEs, clearing Forked Tower: Blood (South Horn Specific), and earning gold pieces from killed mobs.
| Activity | Bronze Spawn % | Silver Spawn % |
|---|---|---|
| FATEs | 75% | 7.5% |
| CEs | 100% | 10% |
| Chaining | 10% | 1% |
| Forked Tower: Blood | 2 spawn | 1 spawns, 10% for another |
In total, you can have 8 silvers and 30 bronzes spawned at one time. You can check the number of coffers currently available by using Phantom Freelancer’s Treasuresight anywhere within Occult Crescent. Upon use, you will be given an echo message stating how many silvers and bronzes are currently spawned, although no locations are given.
Example: You sense the presence of 1 silver coffer and 9 bronze coffers in the area!

Persistent Pots
Section titled “Persistent Pots”Similar to Eureka Bunnies, the Persistent and Pleading Pots FATEs. Which upon completion with a gold rating, will grant you extra special rewards, if you’re lucky enough to obtain a magical elixir. Using the elixir and ensuring the Persistent Pot companion you just obtained does not die, the pot will guide you to a hidden chest. These coffers are either bronze, silver, or gold. Each one is rarer than the last, but contains greater and greater rewards. As of 7.3, pots will now give both enlightenment silver and gold pieces from opening their chests.
How to Recieve your Pots Chest
Section titled “How to Recieve your Pots Chest”- Use the Magical Elixir in your key items inventory or click the Magical Exlixir icon under your duty timer.
- Follow the direction your pot tells you to go
- Ex:
You sense something far, far to the east.
- Ex:
- Once close enough a chest will appear and you can claim your loot!
| Coffer | Spawn % | Currency Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 50% | 100 silver, 160 gold |
| Silver | 40% | 300 silver, 480 gold |
| Gold | 10% | 1,000 silver, 1,600 gold |
On rare occasions (~10% of the time), the pot companion will stick around and will offer to take you to another hidden coffer. You should take them up on this offer because these “double-ups” will always guarantee a gold coffer.
Pot FATE Timers
Section titled “Pot FATE Timers”“Pots? 10 minutes, North”
Persistent Pot FATEs will spawn on a predictable candence that’s easy to follow. In a fresh instance, Persistent Pots (the North FATE) will spawn after 10 minutes after the first person loads in. Afterwards, Pot FATEs will spawn 30 minutes after the previous one had spawned.
For an example, you instance into the Occult Crescent at x:05. Lucky you, it’s a fresh instance! So doing a bit of quick math…
First Pots (and all future North Pots) will spawn at ~x:15 and South Pots will spawn at ~x:45.

Fortune Carrots
Section titled “Fortune Carrots”Very rarely you can obtain Fortune Carrots from bronze coffers, silver coffers, and any rarity of pot chest.
To redeem a Fortune Carrot, you must find and stand near a half-eaten ground carrot that appearsin random, pre-determined spots throughout Occult Crescent. Upon use, a Happy Bunny will appear and reward you with a gold chest. This chest contains 1,000 silver, 1,600 gold, 200,000 gil, and an assortment of other rare items.
How Carrot Spawns Work
Section titled “How Carrot Spawns Work”- 2 carrots can be on the map at a time in random, pre-determined spots
- These are per-instance, so you can leave an instance and join a new one to get completely different carrot spots.
- These 2 carrots are visible to all players
- There can be light competition as anyone can visit a carrot spot and use it.
- If a player uses a carrot another will instantly respawn in a spot where there is not a carrot
- This includes the spot where a carrot just was (meaning you can chain together multiple - Video of a carrot chain)
