Phantom Weapons

Introduced in patch 7.25, Phantom Weapons act as Dawntrail’s combat relic weapons. These quests (as of writing) include three, one-time grinds followed by a repeatable 1,500 tomestone purchase in between each grind.

7.25: Penumbrae Weapons

To start the questline for the Phantom Weapons, you must first:

Complete Dawntrail MSQ (finish the MSQ quest “Dawntrail”).
Complete the Occult Crescent questline up to “Unfamiliar Territory”. From this point, you can speak to Lydirceil in the Phantom Village to begin your first one-time grind.

One-Time Grind: Demiatmas

Speak with Lydirceil to start the quest “Arcane Artistry.” To complete this step, you need to gather three sets of six different Demiatmas types. These Demiatmas can be earned by completing FATEs with a gold rating in certain Dawntrail zones or from FATEs and Critical Encounters (CEs) inside the South Horn. Each region of the South Horn provides a different type of Demiatma.

If you want to farm Demiatmas outside of the Occult Crescent, you can get each type of Demiatma type based on what zone you’re in. Refer to the table below to see which zone drops what Demiatma.

Once you have obtained three of each type of Demiatma, return to the Phantom Village and speak with Gerolt. Turning your Demiatma to Gerolt will open the next step of the relic. Speak with Lydirceil to start “Forging the Phantasmal.” From here, you can trade 500 uncapped level 100 tomestones for one Arcanite; three (1,500 tomes total) Arcanites are required to be exchanged for your shiny new Penumbrae weapon. In total, this step costs 31,500 tomes for all 21 weapons.

7.31: Umbrae Weapons

To start the quest, “Keeping the Old Ways Alive”, return to the Phantom Village and talk to Lydirceil. They will task you with obtaining a handful of items from various places in Dawntrail zones. Specifically:

Rroneek Glue Block from a vendor in Tuliyollal at (13.1, 12.7). It costs 300,000 gil.
Ut’ohmu Siderite from the Bicolor Gem vendor in Yak T’el or either one in Tuliyollal/Solution 9 for 600 Bicolor Gems (38 FATEs w/ no bonus).
3 Craftable Items - Items can also be bought off the marketboards.

Once all items are gathered, return to the Phantom Village to start the “Aether, Aether Everywhere” quest. This will begin the next lengthy one-time grind.

One-Time Grind: The Aetherwells

This step requires you to fill up Aetherwells to 10,000 points per each. There are four wells in total: Green, Blue, Red, and Yellow. Each well is filled by completing a specific Duty Roulette type in Duty Finder.

Green: High-level Dungeons
Blue: Alliance Raids
Red: Trials
Yellow: Normal Raids

When finishing a duty in the roulette, each duty will give you an amount of points based on which duty was completed for that Aetherwell. The point value of each duty is documented and can be found on the crowd sourced spreadsheet linked here.

When the Aetherwells step is completed, return to the Phantom Village and speak to Gerolt. You can then start the next quest, “Wrought by Hands Phantasmal” by speaking with Lydirceil. From there, you can trade 500 uncapped level 100 tomestones for one Waxing Arcanite; three of these Waxing Arcanites (1,500 tomes total), along with your Penumbrae weapon of choice, are required to exchange for your shiny new Umbrae weapon. In total, this step costs 31,500 tomes for all 21 weapons.

7.41: Obscurum Weapons

Starting at the forge in the Phantom Village, the quest “Timeworn Techniques”. will task you with obtaining a handful of items, yet again, from various places within Dawntrail zones. More specifically:

Umbral Clay from a vendor in Tuliyollal at (13.1, 12.7). It costs 500,000 gil.
3 Craftable Items - Items can also be bought off the marketboards.

Once you have gathered all 4 items, return to Gerolt and speak with Lydirceil to start “In Pursuit of Perfection.”

One-Time Grind: Crystal Paste

After finishing “Timeworn Techniques”, Gerolt will task you with gathering Crystal Paste to improve his tools. Crystal Paste can be earned by doing various duties around Eorzea. You can see which duties are eligible to receive Crystal Paste by looking through the newly obtained Phantom Glass in your Key Items section of your inventory. Among these include:

Critical Encounters in Occult Crescent (Forked Tower: Blood is excluded)
- This is just for CEs, FATEs do not reward Crystal Paste.
Roulettes
- Leveling
- Level Cap
- Expert
Arcadion Heavyweight Raids
- Normal and Savage count!
Pilgrim’s Traverse
- The amount of paste earned increasing with higher floor sets.
The Final Verse (Quantum)
- The amount of paste earned does NOT increase with higher offering tiers.
Dawntrail Overworld FATEs
Variant and Criterion Dungeons
- Merchant’s Tale Variant
- Merchant’s Tale (Advanced)
- Another Merchant’s Tale

Each duty rewards a different amount of Crystal Paste upon completion. You can find the amount rewarded in this image

In total, you will need 1,200 Crystal Paste. At various paste milestones (100, 300, 600, and 1,200 total paste), you will be asked to return to Gerolt for some cutscenes and story.

When the Crystal Paste step is completed, return to the Phantom Village and speak to Gerolt. Lydirceil will start you on the tome part of the step with the quest “A Phantom Reborn.” Again, the player can trade 500 uncapped level 100 tomestones for one Waning Arcanite; three of which (1,500 tomes total), along with your Umbrae weapon of choice, are required to exchange for your shiny new Obscurum weapon. In total, this step costs 31,500 tomes for all 21 weapons.
